The Sound of the Southern Cross
Ruaha – Udzungwa Mountains – Isimila stone age
Where do we go?
Tanzania is not only the magnificent national parks of Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Ruaha, in the south of the country, is the second largest national park in East Africa, with unrivaled landscapes along the banks of the Great Ruaha River. A park to feel adventure, exploring its northern and southern routes in search of lions, leopards, giraffes, African wild dogs and more than 450 bird species. But two animals are the kings in Ruaha: the elusive greater kudu antelopes, with their superb elegant antlers; and the elephants, vigorous, intimidating and aware of their power, to be seen shading from the sun under the baobabs or walking in line in search of refreshing water.
From there we will go on to Iringa to visit the magical Isimila, and then continue our trip to the Uzungwa National Park. There we will trek for about 4 hours to reach the famous Sanje Waterfalls where the most daring can take a dip (in the dry season).
Where do we stay?
Our mobile campsite enjoys a special location. No one else can camp in this secluded spot while we are there. On clear nights we can gaze up at the spectacular sky. The Milky Way, the Southern Cross and thousands of stars accompany us. A delicious dinner, prepared by our chef, on the riverbank, around the fire and under the stars, rounds off one of those experiences never to be forgotten. When we go to our tents to sleep, we will hear the bellow of an elephant enjoying a bath in the river, the humming sound of hippos, and of course, the growl of a lion marking its territory.
In addition to resting in our simple but comfortable and exclusive “Gong Rock Mobile Campsite” tents, we will also enjoy the chance to stay in traditional banda huts next to the unique Udzungwa Mountains National Park, accommodation that offers an authentic experience and has a positive impact on local Tanzanian communities.
